A Note From “The Pimpy”

by Jessica Lee Reece
My fine-arts high school mascot was the Flaming Rainbows. Could the administration have been any more obvious?
But the school, its faculty and the students were inspiring. Not all of us went on to be actors or painters or playwrights, but each talented individual I met continue to inspire me and make me laugh.
I have been looking to give back to the community in the same way that my school did for me. And that is when I found One Love Generation.
It helped that a good friend of mine started bouncing ideas off me long before the non-profit was born. “Love is the ultimate trip” was her slogan and her enthusiasm could not have been more contagious.
One Love Generation (OLG) seeks to empower under-privileged youth through art, service and awareness. It pairs gifted teen artists with professional artist mentors. Together they create studio art projects focusing on specific environmental, socio-economic or philanthropic issues. The art will be exhibited throughout Atlanta.
But that’s not all. OLG is taking it to the next level and giving these teens a once-in-a-lifetime chance to expand their minds and their boundaries, literally. This fall, OLG will take an educational trip to Brazil to study culture and art.
OLG is inspiring and it’s artsy. It is at once both optimistic and realistic.
Want to give back to this amazing organization? They are accepting both physical (paint/canvas/markers/etc.) and financial donations. In fact, all donations received today will be in the running to win tickets to the Atlanta Thrashers game tomorrow! Each ticket is a $78 face value and any donation amount welcome!
